your one up on me and the wife, we've been out now to 4 different lakes 8 times with only 1 bite.     tagging this in hopes those around north Snohomish have suggestions 

OK Ken guess I'm gonna have to get my Lic. and see if we can't put some of those thingy's in the boat. Know a couple spots around that might have some.

Old wise man taught me this!

When fishing a lake for trout, reel in your bait like 4 feet at a time! Let it sit a few minutes then reel in another four feet.  Long leader, and your normal worm and power bait.

Also when you cast out keep feeding line till it hits bottom in that spot. Then gently bring the line in till you feel the sinker. I leave a little slack off the rod and lay the rod down and just watch the slack line. When the line moves a couple feet pick up the rod and do a LIGHT hook set, reel in fish and repeat.

Bring at least 3 different colors of power bait  to try and as mentioned longer leader. make sure you put enough pb on treble hook to get it to float. A small night crawler with injected air from a syringe is also effective.


I use a 2lb flouro leader 3 to 5 feet

Another trick is to squirt some scented oil (krill, anise etc) on your slip sinker.

Use a longer leader.  3 to 5 feet depending on the vegetation in the lake.  If that still doesn't work try right on the bottom.

longer leader always works for me and 2 yellow/chartrues(sp) power eggs

  I almost always use 4-6 feet of leader. Also make sure to use a light leader. In most trout lakes the lighter you go the more fish you will catch; 4# is max, 2# is better. Make sure your baits are floating. I like a size 6-8 single for most trout bait fishing, sometimes a 10. And a slip sinker is an absolute must.

There are places on lakes that are just lousy- tried moving around

Light leader is best, Trout have amazing eyesight. I usually do 1/2 oz sliding egg singer with a bead to the swivel. Then 3 foot 4lb leader, with a size 8/10 hook. Very small. I limit out every time. Chartreuse is one of the hottest hitters right now on the Berkleys Gulp "Salmon Eggs" Pick up a pack, throw 2 on a size 10 hook, and set your pole down and wait for that bite.

thanks I will have to check out blackmans hopefully tomorrow. as I have no trolling gear at this time other than some rooster tails and mepps, how is Stevens from for just sitting on the lake in a 12`

Best advice I have read on here. Inflated night crawler has been my best producer ever.

I always trout fish with spoons and spinners.  It's a little bit more fun in my opinion, since I'm constantly casting and retrieving as apposed to sending out power bait, sitting and waiting (I'm a little impatient).

I really like spoons around 1/4 oz. colored like rainbows or cuts.  I try to get ones with a little cup in them to create some wobble action. I've had 10x as much action with these then I have with spoons.

I will say, if you are fishing an area with a log of logs and debree using spoons and spinners can get expensive if you keep snagging them.

I'd agree with making the leader longer, and trying different colors of power bait until you find what they are biting on. I've also had good luck fishing with panther martin spinners from shore

Power bait seems to only work best on planted trout for the first week or two, after that they start feeding more on natural baits like bugs,flies and worms. I always do good trolling wooly buggers,leeches and small pink rubber worms

I have been making a ton of artificial salmon eggs for a bunch of old timers who have been knocking the snot out of the trout on them.  I soak them in a blend of anise, shrimp and crawdad for them.  Some even add a little tuna or shrimp juice to the bag as well.
