Tent weight?
« on: May 24, 2013, 10:30:15 PM »
So I am wondering what everyone's tent weights are.  Looking for a 2 man tent for the high hunt.  It's the only piece of gear I don't have.  My brother has one that we can use for the hunt itself so that's not an issue.  However for scouting I  don't  think we will be able to coordinate all of  our scouting trips together and it makes it very difficult for me to take his tent.  I would rather just pick up one of my own.  So what weights are you guys carrying around for tents?

Sierra Designs vaporlight 2... 3.5#

Also have a SierraDesigns Omega CD that is a big 2 man 4 season tent that is 5.5# if I remember correctly.

North Face Rock 32. About 5:9#  but solid as a rock. Two vestibules and water proof as can be. I've thought about going lighter, but this one has shown absolute balls out toughness two years  in a row and with plenty of room.

Siera designs clip flashlight 2.  I think it is just shy of 4 pounds.  I love this tent.  My daughter and I use it when backpack hunting. My wife and I use it for camping.  However, I wouldn't want to share it with a Guy.  Bit too cozy.

My Golite SL3, is just over 4 lbs., and is really roomy and versatile for 2 adults. It costs $250. You should check out the Mountain Smith Mountain Lt. It's about 2.5 lbs., and costs $130 on their website, but you can find them on sale other places for $100.

for the past 13 so years it's been a Kelty Zen 2 person at just under 5#, however, yesterday the "UPS Fairy" dropped off a Mountain Hardware Hoopla 4 person tarp/shelter with optional bathtub floor; which weighs just under 2# (1# 11 oz).  Have yet to set it up, but after spending hours of researching an personal debate I fell for the sq.ft. area/person/weight ratio.  Again this is a tarp - single wall, not a tent.

Kifaru Paratipi.
love it, <3lbs,
had it in pouring rain, heavy snow. No problems, fast set up, lots of room for one and gear.
Small K stove too if anticipating inclement weather, adds 4 lbs.

performed exceptionally on pack in trips to William o Douglas, Glacier wilderness-WA,  and the Sierra Ancha & Superstition wilderness areas in AZ for December/January coues deer hunting.

Kifaru Paratarp w/Borah Bivy. I think my set up is around 18 oz depending on how many stakes I take.

I run the MSR Hubba Hubba-
Capacity 2     tent, footprint, fly, steaks, sack, 4 lbs 8 oz     Body weight 1 lbs 6 oz     Fly weight 1 lbs 10 oz     Frame weight 1 lb     Floor Area 29 sq. ft     Vestibule Area 17.5 (8.75 + 8.75) sq. ft
Bullet proof tent, great ventilation, and versetile in different configurations. I've also thought of adding the hubba gear shed an extra 26.5 sq feet at 1lb 12oz.
