Can you be certain it wasn't the bear?  I have had one stolen by a bear.  They seem to love camera's, if you don't believe me check my trail camera video with the bear and 3 cubs.
Great point. I'll bet at least half of the stolen cams are by bears.

Are the dates and time right? And if they are when did you go to retrieve your cameras?
Right now it looks like you set them up in December 2012 and 5-6 months later you went back there to get the cameras. That is a long time to let your cameras set in public, also you said you think you could win in court, but if the dates are wrong then you cant prove anything. :twocents:

It sucks that you lost your camera, but it is a risk you take when setting up cameras on public trails such as this. Yes no one should be taking other peoples property, but it happens unfortunately.

No! Not "Nail Strips" or anything manufactured--just plain old Roofing Nails.  They seem to have an affinity to rubber tires!  :chuckle: :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Invest in a bear box, python cable lock, lag bolts, and a padlock. It should help deter the cam thieves  :twocents:

Losing cameras sucks.   Sorry.

I've lost a few, and while I don't think "it's your fault" to put it where someone found it, i have learned the same lesson that some people are just camera stealing scum bags.

and any advice to dump nails is either given in jest or is just plain stupid and wrong.

Bummer.    You could put in a camera that phones home every time it takes a picture.    Just installed one for a friend on private property.  Had to add an external antenna because its so far from a cell tower, but it sends him an email w/picture.

Way cool

4-Wheeler, huh?  I think I'd be hiding a camera better and dumping a bunch of roofing nails on the trail....  >:(  Even if he's not the culprit, anyone that lazy deserves a few flat tires!  :chuckle:
[/quote Iam going to ask the welder at work to make me some nail strips that are small and easy to hide.I have a old camera that dont work and Iam going to put it in the same place and hide the nail strips In the grass.
I do hide most of my cameras but the way the critters come around the bluff i needed it waist hi and pointed at the trail they come from the mistake on my part was you could see the side profile from where they turn around.

You better hope some kid or person doesn't get hurt by that. Seems like an idiotic thing to do. You're going to damage someone's tires or run a nail through someone's foot and you cant even say for sure that guy did it. Wow.

Even if the dates are wrong, the pics of the 4-wheeler are a month before some of the other ones with the animals.  If the guy was going to take it, I doubt he would have waited a month to take it, but you never know.

Do you think he is lazy, or could he just enjoy trail riding on public land?  People like you think you own the woods.  Guess what???  Everyone pats tax's *censored*!

Might be a silly question but do they make trail cams that wifi backup an image somewhere? like have your camera on one tree, and it will back up the image to maybe a small receiver box that you can FULLY hide close by (since it's not the camera and doesn't need to be somewhat visible to take a pic)??  :dunno: I just see these threads SO often, and even from people who lock down their equipment, at least you'd get the pics of them physically removing your camera and their faces.

I seen them for the cams to. If I remember right you can hind them a hundred feet ways with no wires. If I had a pricy trail cam It might be a good investment.

There is at least one manufacturer who makes exactly this. They aren't nearly as expensive as the cellular smart scouter type cams but I have yet to read many reviews in them. The one I have seen is made by spy point. The main trail camera has an antenna on it to send it to the small black box, that antenna alone seems like it would deter thieves so I have thought of making up fake antennas on my cams.

I'm thinking so... might be worth the initial cost instead of constantly replacing cams. I don't know >_< it just seems like a crap-shoot either way hoping someone doesn't take your stuff.

Ok guys I have had some time to calm dowm and realize that the nail strip thing is wrong and just me blowning steam.I will be more careful how and where I put my cameras. It just makes me so angry to have someone take my stuff.
My next set up is in the same area but maybe a half mile off any trail that someone could ride a machine to.I dont mind the walk be jusy dont see as much sign there as on the trails that the critter like to use.As you guys can see there is alot of critters on the trail where the cam was taken.
Let me say to everyone the posted on this tread thanks for letting me express the rage I feel for this violation and not to worry if this is your country there wont be traps waiting for the theif or any other person that happens by.
