1990 Olympic 220 Inboard/outboard conversion

Anyone have any experience with doing a conversion from inboard to outboard on a bracket ? I bought a boat without an engine so I want to convert it to outboard but don't know much about it so was looking for ideas !!

I have a 20 foot Glassply Im working on a conversion on. Its a ton of work. And without engine, could run in the 3 to 4000 range depending on materials. Check out Glasply.net. many conversions documented. Will be the same type of work.

Sweet boat! Keep in mind where your gas tank is located. My dad had an 18' Olympic with an extended bracket for his outboard. The problem was his gas tank was located toward the stern of the boat and it made the outboard sit very low in the water which made it harder to get on plane. Plus the boat would have a lunging effect while taveling at higher speeds. He got a qoute to move the tank up toward the bow but it was something like $2500, he opted to sell the boat and move on. It was a good fishing boat while we had it. Hope all goes well, looks like a fishing machine!

Robodad ,the Armstrong company  http://www.armstrongnautical.com/brackets.htm makes brackets for such conversions and there is few other companies too. The biggest issue would be the transom strenght.... some folks make them from wood .I was actually thinking to do the same - remove the engine and install bracket with outboard. Not sure yet if I'll do it ......

Strengthing the transom is the big part. You will need to fill the hole and add a couple layers of either fiberglass laminated marine ply or use Corsa board. Then glass in knee braces. Corsa is awesome stuff but expensive.

The Glasply tanks are forward mount. Hopefully that one is. No way would I do a wood bracket. Id opt fo a positive floation style. Ill build mine based off a Armstrong or buy the Defience fiberglass bracket. They will sell just the bracket for about 2200.

Yeah no way I'm building my own, I'll find one and maybe install it myself or have a company install it just for peace of mind.

The tank is in the middle under the floor, I need to replace that floor board that covers it so maybe I can move it ahead, I'll know more once I start digging !!
