What size peep are you using for a hunting bow?
« on: June 06, 2013, 09:37:33 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm playing around with different setups on my bow and am contemplating going to a smaller peep (1/4 to 3/16), as I've heard this can improve accuracy (to the detriment of having a smaller site window).  Is 3/16 too small for a hunting bow?  Think that'll be problematic in low light conditions?

Thanks,

David

I use to use a peep and now I have trained myself not to use it.  I hunted with a traditional bow hunter a few times and he was able to nock, draw and shoot 10X faster then I could.  I took the peep off and started to focus on my anchor points and now I am faster then I was before.

So if you are standing in elk camp and you are the "New guy"  You see a 435 inch bull walking close to your camp.  It is a scramble for everyone to get their bow, nock, draw and release.  Who ever can get it done the quickest gets the bull.

Just saying... It could happen.   :chuckle:

I use 1/8 and 3/16.  1/4 is too big for my liking.

You'd have to be camping in NW Trek

3/16 has always given me the fastest and most accurate site.1/4 to big and at 45 yards a little is a lot.1/8 in always took a little to find the target seemed like the walls of the site were thicker than the hole itself and covered but thats just my Op.

1/4" is perfect for me....it has a lot to do with your anchor, string angle and face shape, they all affect the distance the peep is from your eye.  I believe you either need a small peep so you can center the pin or a larger peep that allows you to center your sight ring.  I prefer the 2nd option for hunting.
