No cams needed. Scout a few days before and you will get all you need.

The bulls I've heard of taken there were shot on the gravel bars in the river.  The cows would herd up out in the open on those big bars, then the bulls go out to the herd.

The season is cut down to 5 days and it is directly after the archery season so the elk will  not have time to calm down. I would hold out for a big 5 or better, but would try to scout the whole week prior to see what is around and try to get a pattern on a good one. Sometimes those bulls head into the park and may take a day or two to come back out.

If you are putting cams up, I would suggest not doing it on the river. They will disappear. Put the cams up in the hills.

My uncle drew that tag a few years back and I went along. The info is correct but you need to get to know a few of the land owners, there is very limited public access and some of the locals bow hunt. There are a couple that will help usually. I haven't looked but you used to have to be in the master hunter program to hunt the river. Could have changed when they got rid of the bull tags for the MH though.

You do need a Master Hunter Permit to hunt the "valley floor" which includes all the river bars people are referring to.  Maybe there is an exception (I doubt it) for the Quality Tag but I would make a call to WDFW to verify.

You don't want to have that tag taken away before you fill it.

Correct. You have to be a MH to hunt the elk area portion of the unit during the general season and it covers a little bit more than just the valley floor.

You do not have to be a MH to hunt this permit and you can hunt the whole unit, including the elk area.

Most of the land along the river is privately owned, about 90%.  There are a few spots closer to the park that you can access but make sure you know where the park boundaries are.  Check with the park service for boundary clarification.  Make sure the islands and gravel bars people are telling you to hunt aren't actually within the park.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Good luck
