Ted said Thankx ! He is pretty pumped about his bear ...the bear will go a hair over 6 ft ..and today I will be home taking care of the meat ...This bear had 3 inches of fat on him already ...and the hide was flawless which I was a little surprised for still being a little early yet ...He is going to be a good one to eat ...Plum full of blueberries and Oregon Grapes ...they had that hill all torn up ! The berries were ripe for a week or so now ...That 300 WSM and 180 gr bullet done a fine job ...as you can see in the video the bear went NOWHERE  :chuckle: This is why I preach about a perfectly placed shoulder shot ...I hunt in some serious brush piles and when I get there I want him to stay put ...that bear took a dirt nap right now ! my body hurts from packing out that bear  :chuckle: But it was all worth it ...it was a quick hunt but it usually is in this spot ...if there are berries there are bear ...I will have to tape some of the video with my phone because it takes to long for me to put it on a CD and I am not in the mood to do that right now

Here is the reason I prefer Hornaday bullets ...when you can blow threw shoulder bone on a bear and your bullet holds up like this one did , why shoot anything else  :dunno: :chuckle: and at 246 yrds !

Here is a layer of fat I peeled off of him ...it was about 3 inches thick !

I off on my thinking just alittle bit as far as blueberries being ripe ...especially up high ...he has been proking out for a good week or so ...Oregon Grapes were ripe already and they usually do not come on until the end of September ...crazy !! maybe a bad winter this year  :dunno:

That thick stuff is full of blueberries and Oregon grapes ....I stepped in bear sheet about every other step  :chuckle: But its like that all the time ....when there is food to eat ....I have at least 100 bug bites on my bald head  :chuckle: and a huge welt on my left ear ... We went to war for that damn bear ...just got it all cut up and I weighed the meat at 106 pounds and some odd ounces ....that's boned meat ...and I cut off another 10 pounds of fat....I know I carved off another 60 when I was bonning him out ........Summer sausage he will become

I have never hunted bears in berry patches like that so it cool to see. All mine are in the timber or spring time up there. Nothing really for berries around my hunting areas. Kinda funny to see him tunneling threw those patches.

I know what you mean, I was deer scouting Sunday along the West Virginia border and put several miles in some thick steep stuff.
