Idaho Unit 13 Deer
« on: July 10, 2013, 08:39:16 PM »
I was lucky enough to draw Unit 13 for Deer.  Has anyone hunted the area before or would anyone be willing to offer some advice.

Tons of private and the little bit of public there is gets hit really hard.  Your best chance to hunt public land is the south end of the unit.

When we hunted 18..the road to Pittsburg landing the north side of the road is the most southern boundary to 13...it was a zoo! saw lots of deer, does and 1 small 3x3 killed. I would head in towards the top of the road up high and walk in as far as u can back in there. They saw some big whities back there

Check the access yes areas in that unit on the IDFG website, though i suspect you will have company.  Unfortunately unless you are willing to pay several thousand dollars most of the unit is unavailable and that is why it is an easy tag to draw.  Much of the little public land in that unit is not accessible as it is "landlocked" by private land, which is unfortunate because it holds decent bucks.  I have hunted in the past but finally gave up in 2009 because of extremely limited access and crowding on publicly accessible land.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.  I mainly put in for the unit for close proximity( day hunt possibilities) and the draw odds.  I notice there are two large (6-10section) blocks of idl land that appear to have public roads running thru them.  Are Idaho public land access laws similar to Washington?  Can't wait to take the family on some camping trips and do some scouting!
