Wasatch Muzzy Elk Utah
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:21:19 AM »
My hunting buddy drew Wasatch Muzzy Elk this year. Anyone on here hunted this unit before? Looking for tips. This will be my big hunt for the year. I will be calling and hopefully packing for him.

Thanks

Have a couple of buddies that hunted it. There are a lot of good bulls on the wasatch. What area do u have in mind? What is the boundary for that hunt? I might be able to help u bit.

Had a moose tag for that Unit three years ago.  Saw lots of bulls and some good quality...should be a fun hunt.  It can, however, be very brushy and steep depending on where you are hunting.  It is a very large unit.  Some of it, between American Fork and Heber City, is very rugged wilderness.

My brother drew the tag 3 years ago. Very fun hunt. 320 plus bull is very possible. There is a lot of tags. So there is pressure. But like anything you can get away. It's pretty steep country and can still be really warm. Was in the 80s everyday besides like 2 days. Pm me your number and a good time to call and I will hook you up with a few good spots.  Kenny

I've hunted the Wasatch a lot, it's a huge unit but there are elk all over the unit, the key is getting into spots that most hunters overlook to find the bigger bulls. You will see a lot of 250 to 300ish bulls, but I wouldn't shoot anything less than a 320. There is a chance for 350 to 380 class bulls but that size is pretty tough to find. I do know of two mid 380's bulls that have been killed in the area we hunt. Here are a couple bulls we've taken. You guys should have a great hunt, good luck.

From what I am seeing on the maps and regs it is called the Wasatch unit. I am still researching and learning. Looks like a lot of area to check out.

Thanks
