 Spent half the day swatting at the darn things. This is turning into a nasty year for them. They're gonna get real aggressive here for the next month or so.

We are loaded with both here......everywhere at the same time....cant do anything without constant close encounters of the bee kind..........c'mon first hard freeze..

At least once a year I walk into a nest in the thick brush while grouse hunting....... Part of the whole "outdoors" experence.

Yeah wasps hornets yellow jackets and bald faced wasps can all go extinct for all I care. Had a bald face land on me a couple weeks ago while in the middle of lake Wenatchee fishing luckily it was pretty chilly and it was moving rather slow. Already have nuked half a dozen wasp nests around the house this year and I know there's at least a couple more I haven't found yet.

Last time I got nailed was a few years ago. Cousins from mukilteo were over and we went up to chelan to go swimming. We parked Next to the bowling alley across from the city park I noticed a paper nest was knocked down on the sidewalk I warn them to steer clear cause it was crawling with wasps. Well on our way back to the rig one of my brain child cousins decides to give it a three step field goal kick. I'm loading stuff in the truck next thing I know it's bam bam bop bop boom on my legs I look down to see the remains of the nest at my feet and wasps all over my legs. Think I set the world record for the 200 yard sprint and swat. Got stung a few dozen times an just felt sicker than **** once I was home i passed out for a solid 18 hours

I was going door to door trying to mow some lawns as a kid, I reached behind a bush to push on a doorbell and the next thing I knew I was covered in bald faced hornets.  Turns out the guy did not use his front door and had no clue there was a nest there.  That one earned me a trip to the ER with over 75 sting/bites.  When the bee guy came to remove the nest he said it was the biggest he had ever seen!  I still cringe a little when I see one of those nests in the brush.

I found this today. I don't know how I didn't see it sooner. How many cans of spray will take this down 

Is this a YJ nest or bald face hornet? I've had several discussions with people who swear up and down that YJ's don't make nests like these. I see them all the time.

Yellow Jacket nest. I just had it removed about an hour ago. I was glad to fork out the cash to have it done  Besides my wife made it quite clear to have it removed and not by me  The guy said it was one of the biggest hes seen in a long time. I guess about 10 years ago there was a late spring freeze that knocked down the YJ population around here and it is finally getting back to normal levels. He was telling me he is getting quite a few calls now. I watched him from inside the house and I couldn't believe how many were in there. And they were PISSED OFF.

Dang it you should of called me, i would of done it for free...

Actually thought about doing that. Or making my own Carhartt bee suit  P wanted it gone the next day. Shes deathly afraid of them

Camping on the NF Flathead last week and they were thick around our campsite.  Wearing flip flops around camp I got stung UNDER my pinky toe.  Not sure how he managed to get there...

When removing ground nests near the house a shop-vac is handy.  Set it up near at the entrance, turn it on, and watch the show.  Vibration angers them, they fly out, and one by one get sucked in.  After 30 minutes activity slows and you just shoot a can of  raid into the vac and the hole.

I gave the same comment to my doc last year. I was in Georgia and was stung. I decided not to use my epipen and that the benidryl would be enough. I told the doc it was a rough 30 minutes and I was glad I used the benidryl... He told me the epipen is what is supposed to help keep you a live for the 30 minutes it takes for the benidryl to get circulated in your system.

For the OP I feel your sons pain. When I was a young boy I was playing catch with my sister and she threw a ball into a empty dog house    There was a yellow jackets nest in there and I got stung more times than my mom could count. Ever since then just one bee sting and swell up like a balloon. Two years ago In deer camp I hung my buck into a tree and didn't notice the bee hive above it  . It was dark out and the Little monsters were falling out of the hive onto my back    My kids were holding the flashlight and start screaming as the bee's are on my back then I get freaked out and then I get stung. I always keep ample benidryl just for those encounters.
