Columbia Plateau Hunting
« on: August 05, 2013, 09:04:40 AM »
So ... I sent in my applications for the Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management areas ... and to my surprise got drawn for both the Elk and Deer hunts

Anyone hunted out there before?  And tips/advice?  I've not been to the East side of the state yet (well ... Leavenworth but that was vacation with my wife not hunting lol)

I got drawn for the P2 area for both hunts.

Thanks!

Shoot, I didn't even know they had a permit through the state. I have been waiting to apply for it through CPW Area. Gonna have to let us know how it goes.

Far as I know it's not run through the state ... it's run by the Association themselves.

I printed the forms they have, and mailed them in.

Got both deer and elk permits which surprised me.

They also offer turkey and Coyote hunting.

I did the same thing, but the drawing isn't until september 8th I think. Did it cost you $35 to apply and are you back to only 1 preference point?

Didn't cost me anything to apply.  The association had their drawing in late June as I understand it

Interesting. First I've heard about this (wouldn't have applied anyway).

Sounds like they do their own drawing for general season access (no fee),
then they offer a raffle for late season elk permits.

I think we need more private property managed like this!

Yup, looked into it. They limit the number of hunters onto the property. The form you filled out was for hunting access to private property during the general seasons. And you are correct in that they had the drawing in June but they signed up (awarded) access permits for a bunch of people. The permits I applied for were for Cow and Bull elk hunts from Jan 1, 2014 through Jan 15, 2014. Either way, I have seen a herd of elk numbering in the 100's out there. I have also seen some ENORMOUS mule deer. You should have a good time. Congrats.

I've not been able to get over there to scout yet ... Tryin to before huntin season starts but this was my last free weekend so that ain't happenin now ... Maybe I'll head over for some dove in September ... Really don't wanna hit the ground blind in October if I can avoid it.
