2 cycle motor question

When i first picked up the 7.5hp boat motor, my dad had mixed the oil 32-1 and said that's how much.  Seemed high.  Later found out it's 50-1

First trip out, we were doing 15mph.  Today, we struggled to get to 4mph.  Still the 32-1 mix in there.  Pretty sure the plugs are fouled.  It smokes on start up but the smoke goes away with use.  If i thin the mix a bit with more gas, will that burn the gunk off the plug?  I'm at the lake with no plug socket

Dump the tank out and start over.  Clean the plugs.  If you've traveled all the way to Banks for fun, why not spend a little extra on new gas to make the trip not end bad?

Yep like mtn said, start over, dont try an play mixologist with adding more fuel, not worth ruining the motor, and no it wont clean out the plug, at least not in short order, and if your get it lean enought to clean it you will cause engine damage...

Find one, borrow one....Hate to say it but if it starts and idles, and goes but not over 4mph the plug is most likely not fouled. Most 2 stokes that foul a plug will not start..
You need to slow troll anyways...

I’m thinking you have other problems.  32:1 is not all that rich to cause fouling.  Break in procedures call for 25:1 for awhile and that doesn’t cause the problems you are describing.

I had a little 2 stroke 8 hp that I ran at 40:1

Same thing I was thinking.  It's just gotten worse and worse every time i've taken it out, which is about 4 times.  Don't know what it could be though.  Grasping at straws

There should be a fuel screen/filter on side of the motor. It's usually held on with a knurled thumb screw. The screen could be clogged.

Also the tank isn't vapor locked right? Does the engine run different if you squeeze the bulb while running wide open in gear?

Check and make sure the tank is not vapor locked......take the cap off and see if it runs better. 

If it starts and runs smooth it has good plugs...
If it runs....even slow then it is getting gas...

My guess is it is not able to suck gas at an adequate rate to keep the rpms up.  Your tank should have a vapor screw or plug that allows adequate air movement.  If not you need a different fuel cap.  easy to check by just taking the gas cap off the tank and running the motor.

In a gallon of gas,the difference between 32:1 and 50:1 is less than 1.5oz of oil.

Absolutely not enough difference to foul a plug.

Can't get the carb drain off.  I will check the fuel line/screen in the morning.  It is not vapor locked.  Air flows fine through the vent on the cap and it doesn't run any different when the bulb is pressed.  I tried that.  It got so bad tonight that we will probably be leaving in the morning.  I actually switched to the electric trolling motor because it was faster.

Does the flywheel turn easy or hard when you turn it by hand?
