Wetside blacktails starting to rut?
« on: October 22, 2008, 07:11:52 PM »
Howdy!
I noticed over the past few days a nice blackie buck that I have been watching for a month or so is starting to swell up in the neck and tearing the crap out of the alders.  I caught him pushing a doe around Monday evening but she didn't want anyting to do with him.  He seems to be a week or two early.  Has anyone else seen any rutting behavior yet this season?

Yes sir, been chasin since last week. Budy killed a 20 in wide 3 point pushin, and I passed a nice tall buck pushin this weekend also. Getting reports of others seeing the same stuff also. Its starting ! Now for it to hit full stride!

What sucks is that I have to wait until the middle of next month to shove an arrow in him.  He is a wide 3x4 with an extra eye guard on one side.  This is the buck that I mentioned in another post where I wanted him to get a chance to breed before I tried to stick him.  It has been fun watching the dude but I am getting anxious to stab him.  (Wow, that sounded gay!)  :P

Whats wierd, is here in MT I've seen some of this going on with the muleys. We had some wierd weather..I"m sure the does aren't coming in, but the bucks are remembering that when the weather turns cold and snowy...the does are ready! Maybe something weather related has happened over there Eric??

The weather has been bluebird, warm days and cool but not real cold nights.  I bet that the moon has a little to do with it.  When I saw him the other evening his whole head and face was covered with alder shavings.  He had really been going to town on some poor little tree. ;)
