Incredibly Frustrated
« on: August 11, 2013, 04:44:49 PM »
Mission Maniac, 28 in draw, 70 pounds, axis 340s cut at 28 and 425 grains, shuttle t-locs, biscuit.

Tuned up my bow at the shop today because the cams were a bit out of timing. Up until this point it was shooting great, field points and broadheads were hitting exactly the same.
The guys at the shop messed with the timing and nock point. It seemed good, it wasnt shooting bullet holes through the paper but just a touch nock high. Shot it some more on the range and check it and the dam thing was out of timing again. re-timed it etc..
Now my broadheads shoot wayy right and low compared to field points. Given both my field points and broadhead groups are touching, there just about 8 inches off at 40 yards.

Ive lost a ton of confidence in just one session of shooting now. how concerned should I be if my broadheads dont hit exactly where my field points hit? Ive never had the problem but hear a lot of guys just sight there bows in differently for b-heads vs FPs.

Im afraid it might be time for a new bow but its late in the season now and im saving my money for a three month hunting trip im taking starting the first week of september.

Any one have any suggestions, help, confidence boosters for me? Im really frustrated, mad etc at the moment and kind of needed to vent

For now, Just sight in your broadheads and call it a victory. You are limited on time. Are the broadheads at least grouping?

Yah there touching at 40 yards just way off from my field points which is really frustrating considering how it was shooting before. If I knew this would of happened I would of just bought a new bow but I was shooting absolutely phenomenal with it and saw no reason to change after all these years with it.  I have the biggest hunting trip of my life coming up and this happens. 3 months, 6 tags, 2 states and no bow.

I'm in a very similar situation but I gotta tell you man, if you've got a big hunt coming up just forget about the field points and get confident in your broadheads.  Every time you get frustrated and lose confidence you're just ruining your mind, your bow can still get good groups at 40.  I have an identical setup to yours other than the broadheads and brand of bow, same weight arrow even.

If I can get a 3" grouping at 50 yards with broadheads, I'm going to call it a win situation.  I will probably get flamed for that but I'm confident and KNOW I can do the deed.

Whaddya mean "no bow"?  Sounds like the only thing wrong with it is that your FP and BH are a little different?
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Is it time to replace your cables and strings?  A sudden change in POI and/or cam timing could be indicative of a broken strand in cable/string.

Don't panic, you have plenty of time.  Do you need to find a new bow shop?

I would certainly try to fix it.  If your BH are hitting that far from your FP something is not right and you aren't getting optimal arrow flight, which can/will affect penetration.

I had the same thing happen.  But I just adjust the two wih my rest until they were hitting the same.  I would trust your arrows and grouping more than paper tuning.  I just pper tuned to get close.   Then back up tune and broad head tune.  I wouldn't of messed with it if your broadheads and field points were already hitting he sme place.  If it isn't broken don't fix it!

I've never gotten my field points and broadheads to hit the same spot, not even close.  Just dial in you broadheads and go hunt.

To me its always been like target practice with bulk ammo and hunting with hand loads, once its go time the bulk ammo stays home.

I always make sure that my broadheads and fieldpoints hit the same place out to my max hunting range. It ensures perfect arrow flight. Also I only shoot each broadhead a couple times to make sure because they are expensive and I want to keep them sharp. Right now my field points and broadheads group together to 70 yards.

I never understood why people continually try to "group" their arrows. If your bow is shooting where you want it then get a target with multiple aiming points and use each individual point for one arrow. I find you are less likely to ruin your arrows this way and get a better feel for how the bow/arrow you are using are going to react in slightly different angles/elevations as well. :twocents:

:yeah: Especially when using broadheads.

Sorry, I didn't realize that shooting one broadhead and one fieldtip at a spot while tuning was too much. Ill be sure to check with huntwa before I shoot any more arrows to make sure I am doing it correctly.... this ain't my first rodeo and I'm not new to archery or shooting arrows believe it or not....  :bash:

Another great reason to make sure your broadheads and field tips shoot the same. So you can practice with field tips and not worry as much about damaging arrows and broadheads... also significantly less target wear.
