Is there roads that are open to get back an forth between the umtanum and the manastash units?

I went the Hog Ranch route last year, and +1 on the good shocks.  Good tires too

heavy duty tires.  good shocks, spare tire, onboard air compressor.

i would drop the psi in my tires for the rocky flats, then pump them back up

I was up ther this last weekend trying to get to wenas from up in the umtanum in my 1 ton gmc and ended up on a few roads that were supposed to make it all the way through, beat the hell out of us and the truck and we came to the conclusion that my buddies suzuki samurai will be our vehicle for this area.

yeah we hunt that for elk. There are some butt buster roads in there.

They also are logging in the Umtanum.

I agree with Bone, what direction or area are you trying to get too, what vehicle you drive, what gear you have.  10 plays are a must, some places you need height to bridge the rocks or ditches.  Kidneys take a beating.

It's my buddy they have two cow tags in each unit, he drives a dodge 1500 with a hemi. They want to stay close to where they camp in the manastash(don't have a clue where that is) and wants to hunt around cow canyon.

We went up there yesterday. Drove up Dry Creek to bald mountain then down to cow canyon and out rockie prairie... those are some effing bumping roads. We didn't see much fresh sign, everything was a few weeks old. There are some road closure because of the fire.

We didn't see one damn grouse either?

Best of luck this year!
