Elk Scars
« on: August 27, 2013, 09:59:05 PM »
Has anyone seen scars like this on elk before? I figure it is probably a cougar or a bull got it with its antler.

Remember the old Gary Larson comics.  Many things happen out there.  We collected a ball from a 54 caliber muzzle loader that had skidded down the side of a cow.  Huge wad of hair, no blood.  Saw her later in the hunt, quite a streak shoulder to hip.

Yeah I've seen a few on my camera that have them as well. Nice for noticing that it's the same cow different days. I'll see if I can dig up some pics but the look similar to the ones you have posted. Wonder what really happened.

Don' think thats the same cow, 1st pic the scar is on her right side, 2nd pic, it's on her left side? Or, it's the same cow with scars on both sides.

Yeah it's a different cow, the first cow is very small compared to the others.

Cougar, bear when it was a calf, arrow, bullet, barbwire, sharp rock when running, sharp stick.  Hard to say!!  I've found a bullet lodged and scarred up in a deer before, they are rough animals!

Yeah I got that. I was referring to getting cows on my camera multiple days and being able to tell they are the same ones by the scars.
