Riverswest or ? Outter wear

What kind of outter wear do you guys use, we bought the Riverswest and it leaks   at the the shoulders on both mine and my husbands. I was really disappointed.
Just wondering what other Washington Rain hunters use.

Take it back. That stuff is too expensive to leak.
I personally don't care for it. It is just neoprene waders in a different shape. They make ya sweat and then ya get monkey butt.

I think most of us "just deal" with the rain. Most rain gear is noisy or holds in too much heat, yada yada.

I would take it back, mine don't leak.  I also have the Cabelas brand and a browning hydrofleece jacket that I bought the first year they came out  (1989?) I sweat my butt off in all of them when I am moving. Getting wet from the outside in or the inside out?

For rain, for the last 20 years or so, I had a Cabela's fleece jacket with Gore tex that I used. It works pretty well except it could get to be a little warm when walking, even with only a t shirt on underneath. Sometimes you're better off just wearing wool and getting a little wet. For heavy rain sometimes just a regular rubber, and yes noisy, rain jacket is best. The problem I always have is trying to fit an orange vest over an oversized rain jacket. I usually just end up covering up my orange.   

The other day I saw a jacket that I really think would work good around here. Sure it would be a little noisy, but when it's raining hard enough to require it, the rain will pretty much cover up any little noise it might make. And it takes care of the orange requirement. I think I just might order one today, now that you got me to thinking about it. Here it is:

The problem I've seen is that most of the good rain coats made for hunters are only available in camouflage, and almost never in orange.

Take them back.  My dad, brother and I all use Riverswest and they work great.  You will sweat in them but you will sweat in just about anything.

If your butt is so sore that you have to walk bowlegged like a monkey, you have Monkey Butt!

I am planning on getting a set of top and bottom Filsons this year, havent yet decided what style, prolly the double tin pants and the waterfowler coat. I expect them to be a little noisey, but plan on not getting wet...

Monkey Butt, ....we always called it "crotch rot", or "christ my ass is raw", anyway you call it, it sucks! I live on baby wipes all hunt, no more raw ass!

For rain gear, goretexy stuff or microfiber are ok, depending on the amount of rain. For the big rain, I just use good ol' fashioned rubber raingear. Construction safety stores sell blaze orange rubber parkas for under 100bucks. Works for me. I keep multiple raincoats in camp, one is drying while the other is getting wet... Nothing sucks more than putting on a soggy raincoat, even if you are going to go strait into the schitt and get soaked within minutes.

My Rivers West stuff leaks as well. Kind of like the old canvas tents, if you bent to far or bumped into something they would soak right through. If you get into a vehicle with the Rivers West stuff on make sure you really shake off the water, the outside really holds allot of water that will end up in your vehicle if not shaken well. When hunting on the Wet side I wear fleece and pack a lite Sterns rain jacket. On the East side I take many coats because we are usually there for a week and I hate putting a wet coat on.
I never seem to find one that works for both the early morning mountain climb in 20 - 30 degrees and the 60+ degrees noontime. I tend to wear a Dry-fit t-shirt with only fleece over that. That way I am cold in the morning and hot in the noon time, LOL.
This combo seems to wick very well though.

I use Cabelas Dry plus Silent suede. I put it through the test last year--the day it rained 4 inches. I was suprised how well it worked. I got wet down the neck and sleeve from holding my rifle. I didn't where the hood. It was comfortable enough to last till 2:30 when I shot my bull. Didn't see another hunter after 8:00am I guess it was to wet

Sitka Gear, also spendy but worth the bucks. Downpour pants and jacket. I use the 90% gear and stay dry in light rain and mist . My buddy took the downpour gear to SE AK and was very happy with it.

The best for the price without a doubt is Helly Hansen Olive drab Impertech 3/4 jacket.  Alot of Alaskans Guides -they do it for a living... and experienced Hunters cannot be that wrong.....Light weight and is what it is, nothing more....  A rain Jacket, if you want a mist jacket get one of the Gortex types with a detachable hood, cause they will leak sooner or later, same goes for Rivers West, it collects the moisture within the fabric and becomes wet to the touch for a long time after the rains....... I also like Sitka Gear... Spendy but outstanding...  One of my buddies bought the complete set, near 800.00 for everything... As with any rain gear there are limitation to use as in how well it breaths, etc...  But to stay dry and alive in a cold wet, bad situation, I will never be without the Impertech....  I can pull the draw string and hunker down and will not get wet.....Period.....
