Tying up Leaders

Started to tie up my leaders for this coming week end at Westport  Starting with 8 on 30 pound test line with 4/0 hooks top and bottom. Then I'm going to go with 4/0 on top with 5/0 on the bottom with 30 pound test, then some just the opposite 5/0 on top with 4/0 on bottom. Total for the week end around 20 total leaders. Look out fish

Make sure your 30 lb is stiff enough to transfer the motion to your lure.  I've found 40 lb works better for me.  Have fun out there.  I usually put the larger hook in front when I use different sizes of hooks.

I generally do too, but I'm going to try something that I used to do back when I commercial fished. Going to call Twin Harbor State Park for my camp site tomorrow. Just someplace to cook and sleep. No tent for I'll be by myself.

Hoochies or bait? I rig my squid single hooked with 40 pound leader and  a 5/0 to 7/0 siwash,barrell swivel and about 5 beads to get the tail of the hook at the tail of the squid.Rigged em that way forever,my dad got that lesson from a commercial troller from 50 years ago. hooks em real deep in the corner of the mouth,or a long way back in the snoot

Is that the park just south of town?  We stayed there a couple years ago, they have an awesome fish cleaning station.

This is a bait fishery for the most part with a fish flash and no dodger. Your action is the spinning of your cutplug or whole bait setup.

30 pound is good and what I use too. There is nothing to transfer motion to the bait.

Grayland Statepark is already full. Hopefully be a spot at Twin...

I'm a die hard old school guy but switch to the phony stuff when the dogfish get so bad you spend more time tying new leaders on than actually fishing.  I likr rigging them whole,cut and sometimes rig the cuts with a single 5/0 er,gives just a little bit different action and the strikes are always WAY more severe and aggressive,they seem to hit it like a freight train and start peeling er off.

Its been so long that I really targeted salmon. I generally fish sea bass, lings and sometimes Cabazon. This trip is going to be a meat trip    for our winter supply     I have orders from the boss to bring her home her sea bass

A couple years ago, I got into the big kings on the S and SW edge of the jetty.  I was by myself trolling herring, but I was using those nose spinner things.  I nailed a 28 pounder within 45 minutes, all by myself.  Forty five minutes later, I hooked about a 20 but lost it under the boat when it zigged and I couldn't zag fast enough with one hand on the net.  Fished the rest of the day with no bites, pulled my line up and had nothing but mono at the end, a dogfish must have chomped it off w/o tripping the downrigger.     Taught me to check my baits a little more often.

Tony had two kings one dressed 27 and one was 18 and a silver yesterday up by the cranberry cannery and 3 silvers today. Ocean fishing my be sporty this week end preditions say 15 to 25 wind and 10 to 12 foot seas should even make clamming exciting. You might need to follow me and another 100 boats up the river.

They just upgraded the forcast to 25 to 35 sunday.

Tony had two kings one dressed 27 and one was 18 and a silver yesterday up by the cranberry cannery and 3 silvers today. Ocean fishing my be sporty this week end preditions say 15 to 25 wind and 10 to 12 foot seas should even make clamming exciting. You might need to follow me and another 100 boats up the river.

Now that sounds like some fun water    Maybe I should bring down the Lady Becky 1  I think that 15 footer should scoot right around that south jetty don't you

I tied up a bunch of leaders yesterday for the Everett Coho Derby. 40# test, 5/0 fronts, 3/0 back. I should have enough to last into winter Blackmouth season.  Good luck down there on the big C, I wish I had time to get down there.

Good luck on the derby Ripper  We're fishing out of Westport in the 2-2 fishery instead of the Columbia.
