Yelm/Roy DNR land help?'
« on: September 17, 2013, 09:01:17 PM »
Hey there,
So I currently live in the yelm area and can not find a green trails map of this area. Any help in tracking down DNR accessible land in this area would be much appreciated, thank you.

Aren't Green Trails maps normally for Nat'l Forest predominant areas- mostly Cascades & Olympics? Don't think one was probably ever made for Yelm area. Best bet might be the DNR Public Lands Quadrangle map (I believe it's called) You can order from DNR online. Shows public land in decent detail and covers a decent sized area.

Sounds good. The dnr land I hunt is around mtn/forest heavy areas so I guess that would explain it.

Look at the intersection of 8th ave S. (old harts lake loop road) and State Highway 702. The land on the NW side of that intersection used to be DNR. Not sure now. I took some real toads out of that swamp in the 70's back when that was country and Weyerhaeuser had no gates between the McKenna / Tanawax Highway and Highway 508 in Cinebar.

Not sure how huntable it is anymore but I've seen some good bucks between 702 and Harts lake.

If you are looking for DNR land order a quad map from their web site for the areas you are interested in.

Yeah a lot of stuff has become private and so you have to play the property boundary game.

For sure. Theres a stretch in there that "they've" "threatened" to turn into home sights. Not sure what has become of that property. There are some "farm" lands South of there that I have seen some good bucks on too. Talk to some of the land owners. One of the, may let you hunt.
