Archery Hunting during mod season
« on: September 18, 2013, 02:27:52 PM »
I know I have read in the regs for WA state that during modern rifle (elk), you can hunt with any legal method.

i.e. I could use my bow or ML during modern season.  I can't seem to find it in the regs to back that up.  Anyone know what page that is on?

Thanks
Mike

Copied from page 19 & 46 of the hunting regs:

Hunting Method:
You may use modern firearm,
archery, or muzzleloader,
during modern firearm seasons.

Crossbows are lawful within
firearm restriction areas. Hunting
equipment must meet equipment
regulations on pages 76-77.

Not with an archery tag.  But if you get/have a modern firearm tag, then yes, you can use archery equipment during modern, but have to have the hunter orange on.

You can only hunt during the season that your tag is for. So if you have an archery tag you can only hunt during archery season. If you have a modern tag then you can only hunt during modern season. the catch is that during modern you can use any legal weapon to hunt, including a BOW or muzzleloader but again you must have the modern firearm tag

let me explain.  yes, I have a mod firearm tag.  i am looking for the rules in the regs that say I can use a bow or ml or modern to hunt during that tag season.

It's what Blacktail Sniper provided.  Look on the modern rifle elk hunt page 46 under hunting method.  Key is, in order to use the bow during modern rifle season, you must have the modern rifle tag.

my son just started doing archery.  i got him a diamond infinite set up.  he was asking if he could hunt with it during mod firearm.  my father in law said "no", but i knew he was wrong.

He has a second deer tag for Odessa, I just might let him take it along...

Well, yes & no.

Yes there are a ton more hunters out there, but someone that knows the area and how they critters react to the pressure can still be successful by using that pressure to his or her advantage and setting up to catch them as they try to evade the crowd.

But on a head to head basis so to speak, a bow hunter is at a decidedly big disadvantage in that a rifle hunter can sit on top of an over look and if skilled enough, tip one over hundreds of yards away vs the archer who works in measurements of 10's of yards.
