Mid Day Deer???
« on: October 12, 2013, 05:39:30 PM »
so it seems that most the rifle shots I hear, are in the mid day. 11am-3pm.  could  I ask about your success during the mid day?  do the bucks come out to get some sunshine or something?  I generally focus early mornings, and late evenings....but I am thinking of all day now!   just curious

A lot of bucks will get up and feed during the middle of the day and hide in the morning and evening knowing that thre will be fewer people in the woods.

I've killed a lot of bucks mid day. It's my favorite time to hunt.

I've killed a lot of my deer midday.  Its not my favorite, but it has been my most productive.  I very much dislike evenings, in fact as I get older, I tend to shy away from them.  Too many late shots and recovery is more difficult.  (archery a bigger problem than modern).

When I was sstill rifle hunting I killed more bucks while sitting down eating a sammich during the middle of the day than in the morning.  I have killed way more deer with my bow in the late evening which sucks because I usually hunt the first week od December, it is in the single digits, a foot or mor of snow and packing a buck out that I arrowed at 4 pm and getting back to my rig at 9, 10 or 11 at night is tough on on old,c rippled up fat dude like me.   :chuckle:

We saw three does only today.  it was about 1:00pm. They were feeding at the top of a finger draw, in the bitterbrush.

Went to Minot Peak My dad and I could of had a 2x3 and a spike this morning at 7:10am but it was just way to foggy and we could not get them into our scopes.... The fog finally lifted around 8:30am. They were with 2 does. And there is fresh rut activity starting too.

That is really good for Minot peak.  There are so many cats and bears in that unit that the deer numbers are very low compared to surrounding units.

For blacktails, I've seen most bucks at night but the daylight ones are usually between about 10-2, whitetails it was always sunrise/sunset +/- 30 minutes.
