Elk genetics in the Cowiche/Rimrock and Bethel areas.
« on: October 27, 2013, 05:49:39 PM »
I have a question about the Elk (Bull) genetics in the areas listed. I shot a 7x7 in 09 that had matching kickers and were 8 inches long each. I have also mounted several from that area with similar features. Does anyone know the total area (GMU's) with these characteristics?  Thanks for any knowledge on the subject.

I think it's a age thing , those kickers are in a bunch of bulls from 340 too but they need to get a few years on them to pop up.

Thanks for the replies. My bull was ancient, past breeding age and was also the best Elk I have ever eaten. Ivories were flush with the gums and the teeth in the jaw were worn to nuthin'. I kept the jaw! It had fantastic mass as well, would love to had seen a picture of him in his prime.

We have always dubbed it the "cowiche crown". It's not just cowiche area specific though obviously. Nice bull!
