500 Bucks (dial up beware)
« on: October 29, 2013, 06:57:05 AM »
That's my goal this November.  I am hitting the deer woods and want to see 500 bucks and get as many of them on film that I can, or that are worthy.  I'll also possibly post stats to what I am seeing. I've contemplated a Montana and Oregon trip in there as well, but doubt they will come to fruition.  I plan on checking out a couple new areas that I don't generally focus on, trying to move with the deer.  Hopefully that doesn't skew my count too much.

I am hoping I'll have the quality of deer and photos to put together another calendar.  I guess we will see.

I went out yesterday for a sneak peek.   The rut is about 25%.  These bluebird skies are not helping.  This was how I began my day.  It was  a good start.

BONE you should head over here to the wetside and film some hog blacktails, not many people can do that but i am betting you could, it would be awesome to see, i have often thought of puttin down the rifle and getting a camera, i just dont know what i would do without fresh backstrap in the freezer  :chuckle:

I have wanted to do that.   I am intimidated by all of the private land, timber company and the different passes you have to have etc.  Its just a whole different world than I am used to.  I live out of my truck for several weeks with all of my gear, sleeping under trees and stuff, no camp except at Idabooners when I am in that neck of the woods.   All of the methheads and stuff, its just a different world. Not to mention, photography in the rain sucks.

THanks.   I might have to adjust my totals  :chuckle:   I thought this buck was the same buck I photod on the skyline, so I didn't count him.   I don't see a kicker and he might be missing a little eyeguard.  I'll have to scrutinize a couple more pics.     He was about one day out from full rut.  He was slightly annoyed with the two point but didn't pursue it and he wasn't actively chasing.

 :)
Sure enough, different bucks.   The skyline buck disappeared before light and I was looking for him behind the hill when I spotted these guys.  I assumed it was the same buck.    :bash:   I should have pursued a little harder.   I didn't want to bump them, so I let them be.

well if you ever want to head over you can always stay at my place, plenty of elk to look at, well most of the time, i should be done with my cabin that i am building down by the lake we live on, more of a big swamp than a lake, but it will be a full working cabin, it will definatly be done by next fall. it would put you in the middle of some awesome blacktail country and i could show you plenty of places to go without needing all the crap and having to worry about private property, a guy might need that damn discover pass though...

   Great offer THANK YOU.

This guy was rutting full bore.   The girls were all spooked up.  THey didn't like me one bit.  He never looked at me so could care less.  I usually see a little buck right here, so I was excited to see him.  Piss poor genetics probably, but a nice solid buck
