Need help tracking. UPDATE
« on: October 30, 2013, 09:21:41 AM »
So long story short I shot a 4xclub buck I have been watching a long time last night on on some of my private land. My arrow hit hard, and i tracked a very pronounced blood trail for about a 100yrds. I have been searching and searching with no luck and no arrow. If anyone has an animal capable of sniffing out a deer I'm in the puyallup area. Thanks

Well after a good day of searching everywhere possible this hunt comes to a comical end. First off thanks to everyone who helped. I owe member fillthefreezer and his amazing tracking "animal" a huge favor and much gratitude. Just at dusk when we decide that it's just not going to be found, two does come out in the field where I had hunted the previous evening. About 5 min behind them was a buck!!!! Bet you can guess the rest!! Lol we all got a good look at the buck who had a slight limp! I try to go by the aim small miss small method. I guess I just under shot but caught a leg when I shot. It was relieving to see him Alive without going to bed thinking he's dead and wasted somewhere. But the kicker here is that I damaged my bow last night and now it's in the shop and this is a no shooting private land. Needless to say my buddy who also has permission to hunt plans on taking the 4x3 basket rack buck.

Watch out man. Pretty sure it's illegal  to use dogs to sniff out down game. Stupid as it might be. Good luck man either way but just don't let the Game Nazi see you trying to do the right thing by doing EVERYTHING find your animal cause he will gladly give you a ticket for it.

Try contacting a guy on here named "Macs B".

See the thread he started here:  http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,93959.0.html

(He is in Yelm, so not too far away probably)
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Yeah I think the regs mention dogs as illegal or unlawful, but I haven't seen other animals listed.  I'm wondering if I should get a pig or some other animal that can track...and start using it next season.  :chuckle:

I think you can go for a walk in the woods with your dog....   :dunno:  No reason to bring a gun/bow, the animal is either down or going to survive at this point.  Good luck on finding it.

I think Macs B has worked out an arraingement if you read through the thread to the last posts with his update.

Well worth sending him a PM.  Good luck and keep us posted.

If I was not at work I would help you out! I know what its like to go cold trying to find the faintest sight of blood. Go real slow, cause if you spook it, he could bolt again.
