Help choosing winch for Pickup

I want to purchase a winch that mounts in a 2 inch hitch receiver.  I want to be able to use front or back.  I also need the front area when I want to haul my motorcycle and tow my camping trailer.  I just need something to pull enough to get unstuck.  I don't go 4 wheeling.  I recently almost was stuck in a small spring at my front tire stuck between two large boulders.  Anyone have any experience with these that can provide feedback as to pros/cons and recommendation of brands I should look at.  There is a lot of stuff out there but I don't want to waste money on some cheap chinese crap.  Thanks for feedback.

Smitty Built, aren't bad. got one on my jeep for half the price of a WARN and so far works flawlessly.

I would go warn for sure.  6,000 lbs will probably get you by in most situations, but I would go 8,000 or 10,000, just for that extra power.  I had an 8,000 lb on my half ton chevy, and it always got me by, but my opinion always leans towards go big or go home.  Just don't buy a cheapo!  Buy a Warn and it will  be the only one you will ever have to buy.

Warn 9,000lbs should do the trick.  If you have a small truck like a Ford Ranger you' ll get by with a 6,000lbs winch.  Anything bigger than a Ranger then get the 9,000 minimum.  (FYI a new Ford 150 quad doors weights about 7,350lbs).

I put the WARN front receiver mount on my truck. Ran cable front and rear. 9000ti Warn winch. Nice setup! Have used it for lots of stuff. Pulled rigs up on the flatbed. Yarded out logs for fire wood. Pulled the rig back on to the road a couple times. With a block I ain't getting stuck! The E winch mentioned earilier sounds good with price and all? I'm a Warn fan myself.

I just put a warn 10000lb with a heavy duty steel bumper and I already tried to get stuck but unsuccessful, hopedully snow soon and I can help pull some guys out.

Its hard to beat a Warn for durability and longevity for rough and tough use. Id does not seem like that is why you want a winch. I got a cheep harbor freight badlands for the same reasons you specified. I used my first cheep harbor freight one for 8 years pulling dead cars onto my trailer, truck out of the mud at the edge of a logging road, and a few families out of the snow in the winter storms. I recently bought a new one... the Badlands branded one. It pulls hard and i plan to use it the same way as the last one. They don't seem to last with constant use from wheeling or pulling logs. It burns up the armatures and such.  If a cheep Chinese winch doesn't  float your boat then consider buying an older warn and rebuilding it. you can likely find one for $450 or so and about another $80(last time i checked) got get what you need to re brush them.

I've had a 9500 lb Mile Marker on my f150 for about nine years.  It gets used fairly hard during the fall-winter.  Never had a problem with it ever.  I also use it for landscaping projects around the house becaus I don't like to dig unwanted shrubs up.

If you are a big time Jeeper and off-roader than a WARN is what you want.  They are the best.  But that said you probably don't need one.  Costco has been selling a nice winch for around $350 or so that will do all you ever will need.  1/3 the cost of a Warn.  harbor Freight also has cheaper ones that will fit the bill.  Like I say, nothing beats a WARN but for the uses that you are talking about why spend the money.  Like buying the most expensive chain saw to cut down a small tree in your back yard.  If you are a pro logger than have at it but the small Walmart saw will do the job.  By the way I have a WARN myself and it is awesome.

There is a reason why them POS harbor freight type winches have a lifetime warranty. Because they will break. Not if.. its will. Chances are, it will die when you need it most.  Even a used Warn winch is far better than one of them cheap POS winches new.

I just rebuilt the 8274 on the front of Dad's Jeep in just a couple hours. There really is not anything to rebuild, just seals and clean it up, add new fluid.
I'm also building a new bumper for it.
