Frog Hunting?
« on: November 01, 2013, 04:36:09 PM »
I was wondering if there were any places in skagit county to do frog hunting? I live in Burlington to be exact and was wondering if anyone knew of any lakes around here such as beaver, big lake, or clear lake that might hold good populations of frogs to catch. Any help is appreciated Thankyou!!

Thankfully for our native Pacific Tree frogs I don't think there are many of the non-native bullfrogs around.  I've only seen/heard a couple here in W. WA

Good luck, they are tasty buggers though.

We have a few in our little lake out back. Never really thought about eating them. Caught them with a dip net and showed the women, she about had a heart attack. lol Caught three in about 15 mins, let them all go.

I'd look around the river at as low an elevation as possible.  I was seeing lots of frogs this year (different river system--on the coast), and they seemed to like to be where the river slowed down and flattened out with bogs and beaver ponds on the sides.  They weren't huge, kind of looked like leopard frogs.

Baker Lake has a TON of frogs.  When the water level is right you can gig or net them in the swampy areas near Panorama Point.  We catch them every year, don't eat them, but it gives the kids something to do.
