Cowlitz river turkeys

Do any of you guys who fish on the Cowlitz river a lot know some spots where turkeys are currently hanging out near the river or some usuall hangouts in the spring? Specifically between toledo and mayfield lake. I've heard rumors there are birds all along there and the local fisherman see them somewhat frequently. I'm trying to finish up my Washington slam of turkeys...

Ive never seen them there. But have seen several locally. The numbers around here seem to have dwindled dramatically the last 2 or 3 years. Tower rd. used to be a good area. havent heard much lately though.

I've heard that they are pretty much off limits on the private lands in that area. The property owners know they are rare and don't allow hunting. I talked to a guy once who's uncle lives in the area and had some birds on his property. His uncle wouldn't even let him hunt there. Probably gonna be very tough to get private access but good luck to you and good luck on your slam.

Certainly do not blame landowners for not wanting the turkeys to all disappear. I wish the population would take off, but instead it seems the birds just spread further and further out

I've seen decent amounts in certain areas of the tree farm but none on the river itself.

Plenty of them hang out at the handicap access every day.

Not enough of them for me to post the spot I see them in often

see them every time I'm on the lower river. Right across from the mouth of the Toutle.

Its a tuff area to get permission where the birds are unless to know someone ...Used to hunt down there back in the day but some people think they own the birds and also land that is not theirs ...I finally just forgotten about the birds down there ..Much more fun in Eastern Washington

I came across two wild ones this year. Darn near pee'd my pants when they took off 

I talked to a couple old timers near where I hunt in that area and they said the state has slowly been planting them. Don't know if there is any truth to it but the increase in seeing them leads me to believe theres a possibility. I guess if you want to put the time in and do some calling it wouldn't be a bad idea. A bad day in the woods beats a good day at work IMO.
