In the area I hunted this year all the bulls leave the first week of September. They head off to where the cows are. The hunting would have been great the last week of August, there were at least four legal bulls in the area, and a couple others that came through occasionally. A week into September they were all gone.

Why not follow them ??

They are on private property that I don't have permission to hunt.

I made this a topic in the WDFW survey about hunting issues. I asked that they start the early season on the 8th and end on the 21st of every year. Archery hunters have the worst percentage of harvesting branch antlered bulls of all the three weapons which is due to the way they are doing the early season. 2015 is the only year we will have a later start and end date, then it goes back again

Here is what we get to look forward too:
Labor Day 2014   September 1, 2014   Monday
Labor Day 2015   September 7, 2015   Monday
Labor Day 2016   September 5, 2016   Monday
Labor Day 2017   September 4, 2017   Monday
Labor Day 2018   September 3, 2018   Monday
Labor Day 2019   September 2, 2019   Monday
Labor Day 2020   September 7, 2020   Monday
Labor Day 2021   September 6, 2021   Monday
Labor Day 2022   September 5, 2022   Monday
Labor Day 2023   September 4, 2023   Monday

Yep, 2014 looks great!    :IBCOOL:

But a week earlier would be even better!

2014 season dates suck :bash:  At least for someone wanting to call a bull in.

Looks like a good year to go out of state and put in for an eastside muzzleloader tag.

Hopefully the GMAC got some stuff done last week and the seasons will be pushed back a week on the next season setting cycle.
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I wouldn't be surprised to see them come back and permanently move the season back to a September 1 opener. They have just been messing with us about the rotating start date.

Obviously they're wanting to keep the majority of the hunting pressure out of the peak of the rut, so the elk can do their thing. Which to me isn't necessarily a bad idea.   :dunno:

it's to bad the ''quality bull'' tags aren't in prime of the rut like they do with rifle and muzzle, seems rediculous

You must be looking for a bull.  You seem to do pretty well for cows.

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I would like deer and elk to open on the same day. All the deer hunters running around before elk pisses me off!
Team nubby!
