Trapping in snow
« on: December 20, 2013, 07:21:27 PM »
Had this guy waiting for me this morning, nice big tom
He was not to happy about the snow falling in on him when I uncovered the cage.
Having to cover a little more ground to hide my tracks going to sets.

Nice! I have a love/hate relationship trapping in the snow. Love the feel of it and the beauty. Hate leaving a trail for the thieves. Really fighting them this year. How many cages do you have out and how many cats so far?

I prebait all my cat sets with beaver but usually bait the trap with duck carcass,I like the look of the feathers.
3 Nails I only have 3 sets out I do not set a trap unless a cat has worked a bait,I check my baits about every 7 to 10 days, some get hit right away some take several weeks.
The only advice I have for tracks in the snow is make your set in a creek drainage so you can walk in the water,no tracks in water.

I have grown to LOVE snares in the snow in AK. Up here my footholds get knocked out way to fast!!!
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Beartrap that cat stretched to 40 inches,no pic but I do have a pic of a cat I caught today that is bigger and has the most white on the belly I have ever seen on a coastal cat.
I will get a pic on the stretcher tomorrow.
