Curious coyote or baiting?
« on: December 21, 2013, 08:48:15 AM »
Walking the dog along a forested trail, I encountered a coyote at about 50 yards. He just stood there. As I walked toward him he disappeared only to reappear at about 30 yards. I yelled at him and he disappeared again, only to reappear behind me. This happened over and over again.

I am thinking he was trying to get my dog to follow him.

(this was in a city park, donated strip of land for jogging, mountain biking and the like).

Probably trying to get your dog to follow. He sure hasn't got a fear of humans.

I called the park management. They will have to handle the problem.
I did not know this, but WDFW contracts this kind of problem out. Nusance wildlife contractors are called and they are not free. So the parks department will have to foot the bill.

Yes, that is not unusual. I have read about it before.
My Golden Retriever remained at my side.

I had a coyote do that a couple years ago on my north fence line. He was trying to get my Rotts to come play with him so the other coyotes could try and kill my Rotts. The coyote decided it was best to leave the fence line.........
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
