Howa 1500

The Weatherby Vanguard and Howa 1500 are the same rifle.  I don't have either one, but I can tell you, I love those 20's.

I have a 22-250 Howa 1500 and my only complaint is that action is heavy as compared to other options.  It shoots great and for the price it is a great bargain.  But if I did it over again, I think I would have bought something lighter in Rem 700.  I can't speak to the higher lines of weatherby as they are a different action.

I have a Howa 1500 I built a .257 AI on.  Awesome action, that has taken everything I have given it. 

My nephew has a 1500 in .338 WM.  Shoots awesome, and that rubber feel stock is great for wet weather.

I have one in 223 with a thumbhole stock.  I had the whole gun/scope camo dipped, new trigger, and hand loaded up a killer 55 grain hornady round and I wouldn't trade that gun for nothing.  Nickel size 5 round group at 200, buy a Howa

A guy who has a Howa just bought a Timney Trigger for his gun.  Said it would be a big improvement over the stock trigger.  The same trigger fits the Weatherby Vanguard rifle. I don't think you can go wrong with either gun.  Just a matter of what caliber.  I'd get a .243, since you'll probably like it so much that you'll want to hunt deer with it too.

I want something that I don't already have a caliber in and that pretty much has the same ballistics that I already own. I want an 500-1000 yard shooter. My 6.5 Creedmoor will already do that. I'm looking online and I'm coming up with nothing.......

That should do it!  Just don't be like the guy that took his .300 RUM to the range to sight it in and complained that the gun wouldn't group worth a darn.  When he packed up and left, he left his brass there, and it turned out he bought a box of .300 Win Mag ammo.  That brass sure had a short neck!

I have a Howa 1500 Lightning in 6.5x55, and while it has been very reliable, it has been pretty average, accuracy wise.  It has a very long throat and hasn't been that impressive velocity wise either.  I also have a Weatherby Vanguard Varmint Special in .223 Remington and it has likewise been very reliable, and is decently accurate.  It does have a Timney trigger installed.  Bottom line, IMO, the Howas are decent rifles and I like them, but have decided to try to buy American from now on.
