I have one and all I can say is, they're hard to program. I've used mine a few times and you'll get used to which button to use when you program it. Kinda irritating to me.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Nothing of value to add, just want to watch the thread.  We got PathfinderJR one for Christmas.  I'll give him a couple of days to figure it out, then we'll take it out for a test run...

It helps a lot if your wearing it on your head to get an editing program that has a stabilize function in it, so its not so shaky.

There's two other thread's out there that I posted alot of useful information on, Ill see If I can find them in a bit  Great camera though. I took one of my spare cases, scuffed it up with some 220 sandpaper and spraypainted the whole thing camo, It turned out pretty awesome. Been using it on my hunts.

Pm sent wahunter about type you will need to do software upgrades, so you don't end up buying two.

And upgrades are already available.

I have been following this thread and was curiouser what you guys that use them set your settings to for action type activities, like white water rafting, dirt biking etc.

1080 sounds like the recommended one, but it looks like those in the know set it lower...960 or 780 (I think those are my options anyway). But does that decrease my video quality and make it grainy? Also, pro tune on it off?

Thanks for any responses!

780 is what a friend uses when he videos us on motorcycle rides, and I saw that as a recommended speed some where else to for cation videos.

Costco has the 64 GB SD card on sale now for $50 after rebate, it's for photos and recording video in use in the GoPro Silver addition.

My son and I have several gopros between us. I find a lot of enjoyment in building different kinds of mounts for them and taking different kinds of shots. Here's a mount I've been working on for trolling behind the boat trying to catch some sockeye hits next summer:

We also strapped a gopro to the bottom for my son’s RC helicopter and flew around my property for some aerial shots. There's lots of info on youtube.

The SD card I posted from Costco meets the standard for be Silver edition go pro, just is a 30 speed card vs 45. So records a little slower.

Boss, since it's a sandisk "ultra" and not "extreme", it's not recommended for the black edition though, correct?

As long as its a class 10. Almost all class 10's are suitable for Go Pros to atleast work efficiently.  Of course there's always better. SD cards can run up into the $100 dollar range.

Gotcha.  My video has been kinda grainy and not great quality, I was wondering if it was because of a sub-par sd card.  I gotta make a costco run, maybe I'll grab a new sd card while I'm there.

No it's not, if you want to record to the standard that the black edition can do.

That card was the highest quality they had at the Smokey Point Costco.

Check their web site they may have more choices there.

I run 720 if I think I'll want slo-mo for the frame rate, otherwise 1080.  I'll have to look at the website and see if I can get a good card on Amazon or something.

Nope it should be 720 @ 120fps if your doing slow mo shots.
The biggest factor people dont take into play is the exposure rating for the gopro that goes along with the fps. (May not matter for what your doing) but for better picture in lower light settings go with the lowest fps you can. Bright situations, high fps... low light , low fps.. it will help with overall color.
Back to the slow mo. It very would could be your sd card. The slower mbps cards arent able to pick up the full potential of the picture the camera is actually putting out, thats why the better card you get = better picture. Itss able to read and store what the cameras actually doing and not dumb down some of it like lower grade cards do. Some of the low grade class 10's are even know to lock up your camera just because its overworking. I typically always use 720 60fps for my standard shooting because its a good balance and I dont really need to fiddle with mym camera much. The new gopro that just camme out recently has somme ammazing 1440 settings.

First of all, the caps button is located on the left labeled "Caps Lock" why dont ya go ahead and give that a press one time.

The Hero 3 Black is of the top of the line HD action cams on the market right now, So it all depends on what your trying to shoot.
If its for hunting specifically, a GOPRO may not be your best option... If its for bird hunting it may be a decent option as to its POV and versatility.
If you want something to record hunts, hold a lower profile, and be able to mount to the side of your head like some of the solvid camera head mounts, the CONTOUR may be a better option.

Again it all depends on what your looking for.
