If your dad can wait another year, 2015 will have better dates in September to hunt archery.

Yeah I know.  Never a guarantee to get drawn.

I know I could hunt and peck the dfw site for it but does anyone know the 2015 archery elk dates (early)

Well, Labor Day is September 7th in 2015, so it would open September 8th.

Groovy, I forgot it's built based on Labor Day.  That'll be a much better season I hope.  Not to say I am not looking forward to this coming year.

As for the the average points listed for people who drew permits- it's not "flawed" nor is it "false advertising."
I disagree because it has people falsely believing that if they have more than the average number of points they are "due" to draw.  More informed folks, like many on this site, are well aware of the intricacies of the points system and odds etc...but to the majority of hunters reporting this avg points is very misleading.  They should just report the number of applicants per hunt in the prior year and leave it at that.  I personally talk to dozens of guys every year that are astounded at how they can't draw a blues tag with their 17 points when the "average" is 9 or 11 or whatever.  This definitely fits the bill of "lies, dam lies, and statistics".

I will be using 15 points on the next seasons app and don't think I have a remote chance in hell of drawing one of the blues tags.  So won't put in unless I draw multi......

When there are three thousand applicants for three permits (or similar) it should be obvious to anyone with half a brain that there is no amount of points that will guarantee they will draw that permit.

I agree...and If we limited applicants to only those with half a brain... :chuckle:  :chuckle:

Let's vote in a quiz you have to pass about how the points system works before you can apply.  We'd have leftover Blues tags.  :chuckle:

All advertising is intended to portray a product in a positive light, vis-à-vis competing products.

Who has the best network: ATT or Verizon? They both claim to.

Who has the best light-duty truck? Chevy, Ford, and Dodge all claim to.

Which insurance company is best: Progressive, Geiko, State Farm, Farmers,....?  They all claim to.

There are lots of members on here who read, every year, about how the draw system works and yet they continue to hold to false premises about their odds.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

My opinion would be to put in for units that you are familiar with and still allow you to do your normal routine for elk. If your a west side archery guy and you put in for the blues, well then no west side elk hunting for you (unless of course you've got the multi) For some reason Im thinking you/dad typically hunt this side?

And the answer is ---keep applying there are a lot of others with the same amount, I seen first timers draw a moose tag and others with 17 points come up empty handed every year, the trick is apply for a unit that you know well, don't be like some on here and blindly put in for tags then ask for the honey holes, ain't gonna happen, good luck and do your home work.
