Well all the talk about big bores got me pumped up and those cabelas gift cards and coupon that expired tomorrow sent me shopping . I picked up this m77 .338wm , she'd been on the floor since 12/27. very little wear and only a couple of marks on the stock one I caused taking a picture on my fire place ( oh well my stuff is gonna get used ).I topped her with the new redfield in2x7 , I really like the leupolds but it was 100 bucks cheaper than the vx2 so I figured I'd road test one . Cant wait to start sending some 225's down range .

I paid 500 bucks for it with and old redfield 1.5x7 throw away on her . the bolt knob , trigger guard and floor plate have no wear on them so I figure the round count is very low . hopefully she shoots aswell as my other rugers have . really since a custumer gave me a 500 gift card it was kinda free ! best kind ...

Love the M77. Check under the bolt handle for a stamped T. If not there run the serial number with Ruger, you may need to replace a trigger screw to prevent an accidental live fire. Ruger will mail you the screw and the simple directions for replacement. Let us know how you like the Redfield ok.

In case you might be interested, we loaded some .338 Caliber Barnes 160 TTSX at about 3400 fps and it dropped a bear in his tracks this last fall. I am anxious to see how that bullet at that speed does on an elk. I may take that load to Utah for a trial this month, if I do, I will try to remember and let you know how it did. Recoil is less than my 300 Wtby with 180's and speed is several hundred fps faster.

This is a little different load than I used but it gets the same net results with the bullet in a 338 WM:

WASHELKHUNTER if you want the old scope it's yours just pm me 1 3/4 x 5 redfield . I'm gonna try fed premium 255 throphy bonded if they don't group the accubonds will be next . most likely will use a 200 yard zero and work out to 300-400. after that the system comes out !

Yeah when I built my 6.5x284 I sold it ( never even shot it ) I used to have a go to .270m77 nice to have another in the safe the little .260hawkee was getting lonely

Give the 210gr Nosler's and the Barnes TS a try also. I found they worked great in my 338/06.
I found the 338mag too much of a good thing for me. I shot my friend's Browing A bolt in 338mag and it was the only rifle I was scared to pull the trigger on. Loaded some 210gr X's for him and it knocked the snot out of some big African antelope he used it on. Enjoy.

Have a muzzle break put on it . You would be surprised how well it will reduce the recoil. Belted cartridges like heavy bullets better. The shooter shop will put a break on it for $180.00.

Mine will shoot very well when I do my job. It did take some time to find the load for it. It was really picky on powders. Good luck.

Well I floated and used the brownell bedding kit , next time I will use devcon just because it's a bit thicker . had a ton of wood work to make the trigger fit but she feels great , looking forward to a range day.
