Late hunt deer
« on: November 11, 2008, 02:11:37 PM »
I'm done fighting the fog.  Got to the Swakane on Friday and the first canyon I head up had about 20 deer in it. 15 does, 2 or 3 little 2 and 3 points and a bruiser of a 3 point that was probably around 26". I was not going to settle for a 3 point so I let him pass.  Saw a few more deer that day but nothing to write about.  Next day see a decent 3 point right off the bat then the fog covers him up, drive a little further and spot some more deer then the fog covers them up, drive a little further and spot 2 does with a decent 4 point. The antlers were out past the ears but the forks were real week, not sure if I want to pass on him, I decide to take him when he come out behind the tree and then the fog covered him up. :bash: So you can see how the day was going, everytime we would see something, you would have about one minute to spot, decide and shoot.  Sunday there was less fog but had trouble spotting deer, we finally spotted some an adjacent hillside and was deciding how to put a stalk a bedded buck when we hear a snort and stomp, we turn around to see huge buck at about 20 yard taking off for Oregon, he never looked back and I was not going to take that kind of shot.  He was at least a 160 buck.  That was all we saw on Sunday and it was suppose to be my last day but my wife gave me a half day hall pass for Monday as long as I was home by five so she could go ride her horse.  No problem making that deal.  On Monday I'm where I want to be by daylight and instantly spot a doe, I look around all the bushes and spot a buck. It looks half way decent to I rolled him out of his bed with my 300 wsm.  He didn't know what hit him.  I passed on bigger bucks but was happy with this guy.
