Contest permit?
« on: January 12, 2014, 09:42:49 AM »
Anyone care to explain or elaborate why I need to get a permit from WDFW to hold a Coyote killing contest on public property and all the hunters are licensed?
Seems like a bunch of bureaucratic BS to me
If going to comment where I need a permit please cite RCW.
WDFW regs say coyotes legal to hunt year round
May be hunted with either small or big game license
So what the big frigging deal about organizing a bunch of hunters on a weekend for some friendly competition

Sounds like a party, not a contest. ;)

The WAC cited is a bunch of bullsh*t get in your face government wants a part of everything
I'm working on putting together a coyote hunters getaway weekend for next year and I'm sure as hell not getting any GD permit to hold a party.
Will be RSVP with a small fee  to cover cost of food and beverages and misc prizes

You asked.  Next time find it yourself.

If you don't give out prizes then it wouldn't be a contest, now would it?

I think part of the point is when there is going to be a mass kill in an specific area the wdfw would like to know what the affects are in that area such as deer harvest or effect of deer population. I'm not a fan of the way they control the prizes. Just my   :twocents:
"One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted..If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job." Jose Ortega y Gasset
