Boat Radar

I'm going to start looking around for a radar system for my 19' Bayliner (Lady Becky ll ). I'm tired of not getting out fishing on the coast when the fog is in    I've been running with a compass for so long I would like a little luxury out there. My neighbor gets a little nervous when they can't see anything for 100'    What would be a good system to look at?

I've got Garmin on my Duckworth. Works well and is worth every penny in limited visibility conditions.

Lowrance is nice as well. After dealing with Lowrance's customer service in the past I won't own any more of their products though.

I got Raymarine and it is easy to use and I like it.  I think any of the newer units will work well for you.

I like the radar function of my Raymarine, but the fish finder/depth functions suck.  Lowrance would be my choice if I went new.

I have a Furuno 1715 on my 21' Trophy. It was on there when I bought the boat. It's a great setup, but way more than I'll likely need any time soon.

As mentioned above, Lowrance has crappy customer service but does have a new type of radar that looks interesing.  Still too much $$ for me, I'll trust my GPS and Marine Traffic App in the fog.

It depends on your needs. Be aware , if you have a radar on your vessel, even if it is clear out. If you do not have it on and you are in an accident you become responsible. Not a very logical rule but enforceable. I have Furuno NavNet 3D. It is unbelievable. You can get a very simple GPS radar unit reasonabbly priced. Chart plotters in color are hard to beat , I never worry where I am going , I use my radar to dodge the idiots that are going WAY TOO FAST for the conditions.

  I prefer Furuno, But Garmin makes a very user friendly cost effective package. Raymarine and Raytheon are both much harder to navigate. Furuno and Garmin are Menu driven. When all else fails push the menu button. Very simple. Color electronics are amazing.

   Yeah we can go with that    but I think my wife will have something to say about it

I have had very good luck with both Lowrance and Furuno.  As far as just radar, I would pick Furuno.

I run a furuno. Havent had alot of time to use it but it is super easy to navigate the menu. Mostly run it at under 1 mile but has the ability to see out to 16 miles.
