girlfriend gets her first deer.
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:00:25 PM »
today was an exciting day to say the least. though we only tagged one deer, we did however see a couple more bucks.

we ended up getting a late start this morning, but got to vail right after daylight and met my uncle at the spot just after 7:15am. after a quick stretch and getting ready to glass a couple little areas gun shots just start ringing. after 4 or 5 shots we figured out they were coming from the other side of this draw. i could see the people shooting across the draw to our side (not in our direction) so i grabbed my new tikka and told my gf lets go down and see what all the shooting is about. as we made our way down there they shot 3 or 4 more times. we got to the end of the road and the people had stopped shooting so i took a quick look through the bino's and seen exactly what there were shooting at. a nice little 2pt standing broadside to use at about 120yds. i waited for about a minute incase the people decided to take some more shots at it but they never did. so i had my gf take a good rest and queeze a shot off. MISS! the buck ran/limped up the hill about 70 or 80yds and stopped quartering away from us. looking right up the hill at another group of guys off to the left about 100yds. it was in perfect view of these guys but they couldnt see it. after helping my gf relocate the deer i told her to shoot when ready and she didnt even give me time to finish what i was saying and dropped the buck right in its tracks. it was only her second time shooting a gun, he very first deer, and she broke in my new rifle with its first deer aswell.

she has a defferal lisence so she has to stay with me. so locating the deer from across a draw with no refference points took some time. thankfully my dad walked up to where we were and helped out with the locating part.

i couldnt be any happier for her. she is stoked and cant wait for next season. but now i think im gonna have to buy a new rifle. she loves my tikka...OR should i say her new rifle.  :chuckle:

p.s. we got pics this time (my uncle never could send the pics of my 2pt) so we are just waiting for the neighbor to load them onto a disk for me.

She may be a keeper. Nothing like a little success on the first year out. That should keep her encouraged to continue hunting. Not enough women are involved in the shooting sports. Congats!

oh yeah she was getting mad she hasnt got to shoot anything yet. she wasnt confident enough the second weekend of the season and wouldnt shoot at a BIG spike at 100yds and made me shoot and miss. i told he she could have dont that good  :chuckle:

then the last weekend of the general season she took to long to get out of the truck and i had to put down the first buck/deer (another 2pt) that she ever spotted by herself.

and she almost didnt want to shoot at this one. when i shot my new rifle thursday i was amazed how hard it kicked for being a 270. and she was kinda scared to shoot it. but i told her when she is shooting at an animal she wouldnt noticed it at all. so that convinced her. plus after 8 or 9 shot from the other guy and girl she felt it was her duty to show them how it was done. and she did an awesome job.

hmm i see the pic just fine when i log out and when i log in.

my mom, dad, and uncle missed a huge spike today at about 400 yards. they must have shot 10 times between the 3 of them. it was great, just like yesterday with the people shooting at the deer my gf got. only this time there wasnt someone at the other end to get the spike.
