91 yota 22re help
« on: February 15, 2014, 10:26:21 AM »
My truck warms up and idles fine, about 750. when I restart it after it is warm it idles really low, like around 300. when I start to drive again it goes back to normal. Just think its kind of weird. I also was getting 15mpg on a Bosch o2 sencer  and it ran really rich, so I put a new Denso in it and got about 22mpg for a month, now I get about 18. its all driving me nuts. I've changed all the tune up parts.

The truck  :chuckle:

for what was wrong with my truck it would have cost more then the truck was worth to fix it. But my truck would bog down once in a while when I would give it heavy throttle.

When was the last time you had a valve adjustment?  I had a 94 that did almost this exact same thing, idled well when cold, but when warm I would sometimes have to give it a little gas at a stop light to keep running at idle it dipped so low, and the exhaust smelled super rich.  A valve adjustment fixed it.

I did one last summer, but I have noticed they are a little noisy again.

I had the same issue in a 90 22re.  There is a temp sensor that controls idle based on temperature.  I think there was a recall or service bulletin.  Replacing the sensor fixed it right up.

Have you checked the coolant level? If it is even slightly low the temp sensor can cause odd running characteristics.
