Montana hunting
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:25:52 PM »
Looking at hunting outside of Dillon and was wondering if any of you have hunted around there? Deer, elk and/or antelope. How are the herds? How much does it cost? Is this a brow-tine unit? How are the permit opportunities? Never hunted out of state and just thought maybe you guys could help out with some of these details. Montana vs Idaho archery (or rut hunts) elk what's your guys vote?
Slinging arrows and flinging lead is in my blood!

I've hunted there a lot over the years, it used to be a great place to hunt elk. About 8 years ago it started to slide, by '09 the numbers had dwindled significantly, wolves ruined it and it has not been remotely decent since.

Not a lot of mule deer but a lot of whitetail, mostly private though. :twocents:
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

My cousin has a buddy there so that's why I say Dillon. Public wouldn't be an issue either. Is it a brow-tine unit?
