cowlitz summer run guide?
« on: February 27, 2014, 08:30:30 AM »
I was talking with my boss and he's never caught a steelhead don't think he's ever tried but in talking with him he would like to book a summer run guided trip on the cowlitz.  I told him I'd go to just for fun right.  Anyone have any recommendations on a good summer run guide for the cowlitz?  Looking to book about mid July I think.

Give John with Rotten Chum a call. He is a good guy and used to live right across the pit from me. If he doesn't he can probably give you a name to put you on some fish.

The Holts (Ron preferably)
Phil at Mystical ledgends
Bob Barthlow at riversnw

Those would be my order of calls.

Phil Stephens.  He's a great fisherman and a great guy to spend the day with.

Andy Coleman owns Andy's Angling Adventures. Local guy born and raised on the river pretty much. He learned from Clancy as a young man. He is a good friend of mine and a great guide with awesome boats and top of the line equipment. Goggle him, you will be happy if you go with him.

How do you goggle someone Ak? :)  Any of the guides mentioned will do a great job.  You might ask if they are gonna pull diver and bait or side drift.  Might get boring just pulling divers. Most guides do that in the summer though. It does put fish in the boat.

Phil is good at fishing summer runs their (mystical legends)
But if you want to get into ALOT of summer runs call Casey (waters west) you will be able to fish out of a db and most likely not see another person. Skill is not required for what he does! And you will be fishing the wynoochee.

Cant say i care much for the Holts, they crowd the bankies a little tight and, from what i've seen, think they own the river.  Bob Sommer of Guidelines is who i fished with, good guy and easy to fish with.  $.02

30+ years of fishing the Cowlitz and can't say that I really care for most of the guides nor do I think you even need one. Check Open  Seats or just ask imo. My sled will unfortunately only fit one other person, but I do spend way too much time down there.
