Scoped Shotgun
« on: March 04, 2014, 04:29:57 PM »
I was wondering who has placed a scope on a shotgun?  I purchased a slug gun with a fully rifled barrel and looking to make an accurate slug shooter.  I have been looking at a Leupold Ultimate Slam Scope 2x7 to top it off with.  Trying to get as much internet research in prior to purchase.

You get that used Savage 220F from skagit arms? My buddy's is on the way from buds guns,he is going to top it off with a Nikon Slughunter scope,as he did research and found a positve outlook on the Nikon BDC shotgunscope.Apparantly the trick is getting rings and bases to make it work.He told me the research showed a full action length lower picitinny rail on the reciever and high rings is the set up.If all goes well we should be testing it out in the next week or two.The hunt is on for the remington accutip 250 grain slugs right now, which are reported to be the most accurate.Theres a ton of Hornady 20 gauge sabot slugs up here but remingtons are as scarce as hens teeth.I plan on taking some pics of the targets and posting the results.

You know now that you bring it up,  :dunno:my eyes are not what they use to be. I was thinking of taking the red dot off my turkey gun and puting on a low power scope to better see those beards.

I have a Leupold 2-7 on top of my 11-87 slug gun. I usually keep the power at 4 or lower.  I wouldn't go back to iron sights

I use a leupold rifleman 2-7.  also use the lightweight, high-velocity slugs and it works great.

Also I have hunted the hard rain and cold with rhat scope and no problems.  I wouldn't recommend going cheap on shotgun scopes. Also keep in mind the base.  I have the B-Square base and it's very solid.

I picked up the Benelli M2 slug gun.  I have a Game Reaper 1 piece precision mounting system for the scope as well.  Now I just have to get the scope.  I did a lot of looking and I think the Leupold Ultimate Slame Scope with the Sabot Ballistic Reticle will do the job in 2x7.  That would be the Matte# 113868.  I looked at Optics Planet and they are about $250 w/ free shipping.

We have a Simmons Pro Hunter 3-9X on our 20 ga.  Did you get a cantilevered mount or is it attached to the action?  I've had this scope on my 12g as well with no problems.

You might want to look at the Leupold VX-1 1x4x20 Shotgun scope.  They have a huge FOV for fast acquisition on the bottom end and 4x on the top should be enough for the longest shot you'll take with a shotgun.  Plus with the 20mm bell they can be mounted very low.  I use them on some of my coyote rifles.

O/U combo 12ga/5.6x50R Mag, both barrels shoot to point of aim at 50 yards and I have no problem out to 300 yards with the rifle barrel.
