Just one thing I think it needs--a Winter Trigger Guard.  I harp on this all the time, but I can't help it.  That straight trigger guard on the AR15/M16 Rifle is the worst design flaw on a gun I have ever seen, except for the Paterson Colt revolver, which had no trigger guard at all.  :twocents:

I love the winter trigger guards too. They look really nice. I put them on all my AR builds.

There are a couple of different styles=Magpul and some others make the curved, streamlined ones, and Rock River and YHM make deeper ones, but not as good looking.  I personally prefer the RRA/YHM style, but they both work.  You won't notice the difference in how they work regardless of which one you choose.

What it costs to build one is like asking "How big is a dog?"  the only part that must be bought through an FFL is the serialized stripped lower.  the rest of the parts can be bought online, and you can spend as much or little as you want.

BUT, if you are looking strictly at the cost, you will be better off buying an off-the-shelf AR 15.  It might not be exactly what you want, but being a modular gun, you can change anything as the money comes available...  :twocents:

I hate to say it but, you can't buy a stripped upper for $100. The stripped lower I bought from form Model 1 Sales without the BCG and CH was $ 485 plus the BCG & CH was another $135. It was $ 615 shipped.

A stripped upper with the add-ons seem like a waste since you can buy them fairly cheap. Still, what was the cost of the total price on the upper with everything ? Barrels are $200 plus all the other accessories.

You still need a barrel. I'm not knocking the guy, but the price seems too cheap from what I've done. Mine was right at $ 725 with everything complete.

You can buy them pretty cheap indeed but you can build them cheaper or with better components for the same money.

Here is a easy work up. 100 for complete upper. 40 for gas black and tube. 60 for a hand guard. 15 for a charge handle. 100 for a bcg. 30 for a flash hider. Plus the barrel which can go 100- you name it. I just did another with a 120.00 barrel so lets say that.

That's 465 for a finished 100% completed upper.

Nice job.  Put in the safe and keep it there.  They're like Tribbles.  All they do is eat and multiply.

Be honest.  After you finished it, you went around the house going, "pew, pew. pew."

I'm not really sure why that would be.

From Wikipedia;
.458SOCOM
250 gr  SP, 2,150 ft/s, 2,565 ft·lb

.450 Bushmaster
250 gr SST, 2,214 ft/s, 2,722 ft·lb

Velocity and energy edge goes to the Bushmaster. Opposite and equal reaction (recoil) edge goes to the Bushmaster as well. They're both very similar. Both are fine rifles.

250 gr  SP, 2,150 ft/s, 2,565 ft·lb

.450 Bushmaster
250 gr SST, 2,214 ft/s, 2,722 ft·lb

Velocity and energy edge goes to the Bushmaster. Opposite and equal reaction (recoil) edge goes to the Bushmaster as well. They're both very similar. Both are fine rifles.

I don't know why either, except that the .450 Bushmaster uses a pistol-diameter 45 bullet, and the SOCOM uses a rifle-diameter bullet.  The .450 is a straight case, and the SOCOM is a bottle-necked case.  The 450 Bushmaster recoils about like a 20 gage shotgun.  I never fired a SOCOM, so I can't really compare them, but my friend says it was bad!  :dunno:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I haven't shot mine and I've had it for 2 years. I have loaded ammo, reloading dies, brass, bullets and primers, plus powder if I ever grow some to shoot it.  :chuckle:
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

How can you create a piece of art like that and not shoot it?

That would be like building a motor and never running it or dating the prom queen until she is begging you, and you saying "no" I just want to stare at you awhile   :yike:
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
Psalm 144.1
