anyone ever gone on that pond with a Indian guide. A friend of mine has been offered a trip. He claims he doesn't need a license, can fish bait and two poles. Keep three fish and Nats' are all game! Water is high so they were going to plunk from the bank.

Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks

I traded work for a few trips with Robin Rhodes and others.

You can fish without a "guide" as long as your partner is a tribal member.

When the water gets high and dirty it takes forever to flush out of the lake- can take months. They'll probly plunk up by the highway for fish coming back to the lake. Not exactly an adventure on the river, but it could be productive.

As far as regs, yeah shall we say "liberal"

Had bad experiences down there twice and will never go back. Had the valve stem backed out of one of my tires down there one time and my guide showed up about three hours late because he just could not get going on my second trip. Never got on any fish! I only went because a Friend of mine wanted to try them. I have a boat of my own and do well in other places.

Have hired guides in the Forks area and had great success. If your buddy goes, I hope it works out well for him.

I've done a few trips with a native on the Salmon River there. I had a license prior so not sure if it was required while fishing tribal water. 3 fish limit and yes nats were fair game.  We paid our "guide" 75 bucks and if the water was right it was well worth it. There were some 30lb kings rolling around in there as well which were a blast to C/R in a river less than 12' wide.

Some of the guides are definitely more professional than others (many are more "escorts" than guides).

I would add that there is nothing about the Lower Quinalt that equals instant success. Fishing can be as tough as anywhere. Especially this time of year when most hatcheries are already through. Native numbers are not necessarily better than other coastal rivers. Best thing it has going is less angling pressure and 30+ miles below the lake to fish.

Did a trip last month with private water adventures. With my son and co worker fished our buts of for 8 hrs 2 big cutthroat . And lost 1 steely . Was a nice day on the water but for the fishing I was disappointed . It was a bucket list trip. So I'm not to sure on what to think what's a head for me.  Went and fished the Wynooche the following weekend and picked up 2 fish. And  a lot cheep per .

Haven't been in touch with him a lot lately. Last I heard he was doing well; doing more crabbing (bought a boat) than guiding these days...
