Pop Up Blind
« on: April 11, 2014, 02:43:51 PM »
Anybody use a Pop up Blind for Blacktails? I'm not talking about throwing one up on the side of the road on a clearcut or anything like that. What about finding a place thats out of the way, steep and deep, with some good trails running through it? Anybody had any success doing anything like this?

I would think they would be very similar to using them for whitetails which I have done plenty of times. Few things I have learned:

1) Don't set up too close to the areas that you are expecting the game to pass through. If bow hunting, set up at least 30-40 yards back if possible and adjust according to weapon.

2) Even with the blind up, I would still try to conceal it using natural vegetation as much as possible.

3) Most blinds have black inside as the color so try to match that and not camo, at least on top which will be visible.

4) Practice shooting from a sitting position, especially important if going with a stick and string.

5) If possible set it up early so that the animals can get used to it and the smells get out of it. I wouldn't do this if you are close to a road or main trail but if you are way back in and you take the time to conceal it, someone would have to darn near stumble across it to find it. Even if they do, hopefully they will leave it alone.

Hope this helps a bit.
