Been crazy busy and almost didn't make it out for opening day this year. Headed out around mid day to one of my favorite spots. My phelps diaphragms did not let me down. Got a couple of toms to answer me. I got into position and then realized they were all in a group moving down to me. You know your calls are working when you get them hens headed your way! There ended up being about 9-11 hens that came in with a huge tom and the tom I harvested. There was also 4-5 jakes tailing. They came to about 40 yards and I botched it. I moved way to quick to get on the big tom and the hens caught me moving. They started quick cutting and did a 180 and were headed out. The big tom was dead smack in the middle of the group and I could not get a clean shot. The other tom took a hard right and left the group. That was a mistake for him. I rolled him at around 45 yards. Then the flock took off most of them flew but a few runners took off every which way. I started calling and cutting real hard and 2 jakes made a loop back towards me. I pulled down on one but for once decided to pass and let them go. I am going to try to make it back out again. It is getting to be hard to find the time with all the stuff going on here. Oh and note the scatter gun! Been awhile since I have used one of them on opening morning. Anyways enjoy the pic all and good luck to you guys.
