"X" Marks the Spot, #1
« on: April 16, 2014, 10:12:13 AM »
Day 8 of your 10 day SW Montana hunt. After a very nice spot and stalk effort, you find yourself at full draw 32 yards from the closest bull. Your position is at the edge of this clearing with good cover/concealment to your sides and behind you (at red X). It's clear sailing for your broadhead from here to the critter. Wind is gently blowing from left to right.

Are you shooting? If so, put an "X" on the spot your arrow is heading.

Reminder that if you save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, you'll be able to place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg and add the marked up pic with your post.

:o not until the animals are separated.  An arrow can punch right through that first elk.

That's not looking good....hopefully I wouldn't have got into this set up but I guess I'd hopefully be able to hold draw until his attention goes to something else besides me

But ATM that bull has a good chance of living to see another day

This would suck for sure. Full draw and he has you pegged.....just pray the other bull walks forward and you have the strength and patience to hold at full. Any movement on your end and this is toast!

I wouldn't shoot. I hate the look of velvet antlers, give him a few more weeks....

With a rifle, you could take the one in front between the eyes or the one in back behind the ear.

Archery...no shot, not yet anyway.  I'd be thanking God that I lifted all year and could hold at full draw for a few minutes.

This situation would hurt.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Don't shoot...yet.  Every elk I've shot w/my bow has been a full pass thru.  Don't want to wound or kill the one behind.  If you can't hold until the back one clears.  Let down and hope.  If the front one spooks, the back one might just stand there looking at his buddy wondering "whats his problem."

Wouldn't shoot. But it does look like a good heart shot would still miss the other elk incase of a pass through
