For those who have never seen Yellowstone, here is one of many awesome pics of spectacular wonders of the park.

This pic is terraces at Mammoth hot springs.

The colors are different types of algae and bacteria creating multiple colors depending on  what stage of their life cycle they are in.

The step-like terraces form as heated water moves along the Morris-Mammoth Fault. The hot water carries dissolved calcium and bicarbonate to the surface of the terraces where pressure lessens. Carbon dioxide then escapes as gas and the carbonate combines with calcium to precipitate as travertine.

Absolutely incredible!  Something very primeval-looking about those terraced hot springs...
