First Bird!
« on: April 21, 2014, 01:06:11 PM »
Took my nephew out opening day and ended up shooting his first ever Turkey weighing 21lbs. and a 7" beard.  Set him up in a ground blind around 4:30am had the Primos Mobile out at 20 yards, heard some hens but no gobblers.  Around 6:30am gave a shout out with the Primos Freak slat call and "Gobble Gobble Gobble" sounded like it was trying to come in the blind from behind us! I looked at my Nephew and his eyes were huge I Tolled him to be ready!  He peeked through the window on are right and said he's coming" I tolled him to just relax and I'll tell you when". I started to peek and didn"t:t know there were three hens and three Jake's coming to, the hens starting running straight out and the Jake's were following them i let out a soft cluck and "Gobble Gobble Gobble" here comes the tom! at about 25 yards he stops and turned to follow the Jake's, I tolled him it's now or never so breath and just squeeze the trigger"BOOM" the tom starts flapping in circles and proceeds to fly off to the right of us and went be hind us couldn't see exactly were. Her started to cry and I tolled him that's OK you hit him and we will go look for him".  We got out of the blind and walked next to the creek were I last seen him, as I pointed and said it looked like this is were they crossed I see a bright red head in the bushes "there he is" all of the sudden he gets up to run and "BOOM" he starts to roll down the bank into the creek I ripped off my binoculars and ran across the creek which was about 2 feet deep and cold manage to grab him before he got wet.  As I handed him his bird he couldn't  talk or breath! he was so excited! "Priceless" nothing better than watching a youngster getting his first bird.

Fantastic!  He even has a bit more exciting story to tell than, "I saw bird and shot bird." :chuckle:  I doubt he will ever forget this one!  Congratulations to the both of you
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
