Good quality all purpose boot?
« on: May 04, 2014, 02:04:14 PM »
I am in the market to upgrade my boots. i have the cabelas full draw uninsulated hunting boot right now. I liked them other then a very thin heel and the material did not hold up very well during a few backpacking trips in the cascades causing them to leak after the first trip. Im looking for a do it all uninsulated boot for everything from upland birds in fields and rolling hills to bear hunting/ backpacking into alpine lakes. I have been looking into the Cabelas meindl perfeckt ultimate hunter with fit iq and the cabelas air revolutions by meindl. I am looking to stay under 300$

Anyone have any good recommendations?

Try out a few different boots.  Everybody's foot is different and boots fit differenly.  A boot that fits me well, might be uncomfortable on you.

With that said,

Zamberlan
Asolo
Kennetrek

All three are good boots.  See what one fits your foot the best.  Be prepared to break in the boots before going on serious hikes.

I wear Danner Acadias. They're heavy, uncomfortable, and expensive ($250ish). But they're also waterproof, and last a long time. Plus, for carrying heavy loads out, they can't be beat. Happy.

Boots are so subjective I find its difficult to get a truly honest representative of what will work for YOU. That said, I have had great luck with the Meindle Perfekt Hiker. I am on my second pair and thats after using a couple other big name brands, one of which worked great. The other a was quite a dissapointment. Both cost significantly more than the Meindle. Are they "Perfect".... no. The insoles can use upgrading, and not a big fan of the lacing system. But for me they are comfortable, have kept my feet dry, and lasted well for the money. So I consider them a very good, to excellent value.

I tried a pair of Salomon Quest 4D's. They fit great, but that is it..they leak, and fall apart from the first canyon crawl...

I am thinking about getting a pair of Hanwags once my Warantee pair of Salomons start falling apart

I would add the Meindl's to your list.
Other then that, I agree 100%.  My feet happened to like the feel of the Kennetrek's the best so I bought them.  My feet still like them and so do I, 5 years later.   :chuckle:
